Mr. Giacinto Jacazzi, born in Milan was a fashion creator. He arrived in Monterosso entirely by chance in 1960 and immediately fell in love with this small fishing village.  Enchanted by the view of Punta Corone, he rented a fishing boat to observe better the area that had so impressed him.

Observing the cliff from the sea, he conceived his visionary project: to build a unique hotel, in a unique position.

That same day he managed to contact the owners of the plots of land and in a short time concluded the purchases.

Finally, in 1963, having overcome problems, unforeseen events, and difficulties of all kinds, Mr. Jacazzi saw his dream come true and was able to touch his goal: the hotel was ready!

At this point, only the name was missing.

The stretch of coast just behind Punta Corone suggested the choice: the old fishermen called it Porto Roca, to indicate a suggestive natural harbor at the foot of the cliff.
